Since 1982, AIM has continuously provided a video production equipment, facilities, training, and access to a basic cable television channel to all on a first-come, first-served basis. Our members use their skills to produce powerful local media content that highlights the people, places, organizations, businesses and events in our community. Our video programming can be found in Arlington County on the two public access cable television channels we operate: Comcast channel 69 and Verizon channel 38.
AIM’s facility, located in Clarendon just off Wilson boulevard, is equipped with the latest in media-making tools including an HD three-camera television studio, a state-of-the-art audio production suite, portable audio and video equipment, two editing stations, a Mac computer lab, a mobile production van, and more. With the historic launch of WERA-LP 96.7 FM, Radio Arlington in December 2015, AIM continues to meet the needs of the diverse population of Arlington County and the DC metro area in exciting new ways. Take a look at our class offerings and consider becoming a member to take advantage of everything we have to offer.
Arlington Independent Media builds our community by bringing independent voices together to exchange ideas, opinions, and artistic expressions. By providing comprehensive basic training, master-level advanced instruction, a fully equipped digital production facility, content rich website and channels delivered to every Arlington cable subscriber, we make people into producers, not just consumers, of media.
We’re all enriched when our volunteer producers raise their voices. Since October 1982, they’ve placed more than fifteen thousand programs on our channel and website. Their shows have covered every style and genre of television and have expressed innumerable points of view. Almost thirty percent of their programs have been in languages other than English, including Vietnamese, Farsi, Amharic, Spanish, Arabic, and Korean. Our producers have explored the issues that matter to the Arlington community and the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area from perspectives that are often ignored by the mainstream media.
When you join the AIM family, you join hundreds of talented, dedicated volunteers who work together to bring independent news, information, art, and entertainment to our viewers. You also join an organization that is internationally recognized as a leader in community based, independent media training and production.
Welcome to the family!
